Profile

Staff-level Software Engineer with 12 years of experience building web applications and the platforms that power them. I set technical direction across teams through architecture decisions, shared platforms and focused engineering working groups, and I'm hands-on shipping new code daily. At Squarespace, I founded and chair the Acuity Frontend working group and lead work on booking, payments and frontend infrastructure for a scheduling product used by hundreds of thousands of businesses. Before that, I was the lead frontend engineer for Indeed's Resume Search, leading and mentoring a team of 10 frontend engineers. I love making data-driven decisions, building delightful user experiences, and helping the engineers around me succeed.

Experience and Highlights

  • Cross-team technical leadership: Founded and chair the Acuity Frontend Guild at Squarespace, setting frontend direction across six product teams. Previously the lead frontend engineer for Indeed's Resume Search, leading and mentoring a team of 10 frontend engineers.

  • Frontend platform and performance: Designed a shared static-asset platform for Acuity's frontends and drove its adoption, saving about $72k/year in CDN costs. Built rollbacks that cut recovery time from 15+ minutes to about 30 seconds. At Indeed, shipped modern-browser module builds that cut page load time from 750ms to 400ms.

  • Product work with measurable outcomes: Co-led a self-serve text editor that 11k businesses adopted, cutting related support volume by 30%. Built the checkout layer of a booking-page rewrite whose first phase moved about 45% of Acuity's customers. Rebuilt Indeed Resume Search's purchase flow for a 10% conversion lift.

  • Raising the engineering bar: Wrote architecture decisions that became org-wide standards, gave all-hands talks that are now onboarding material, and trained 20 new frontend interviewers at Indeed.

Work Experience

Senior II Software Engineer — Squarespace (Acuity Scheduling) Remote (San Diego, CA) | Aug 2022 - Present

  • Founded and chair Acuity's Frontend Guild, running a cross-team frontend roadmap for six product teams alongside their managers and PMs. Through the guild, cut the Admin app's bundle by 13% and reduced critical npm vulnerabilities from 35 to 10.

  • After leading the retro for a SEV2 incident, wrote the RFC for and built near-instant rollbacks for the client scheduling page frontend, taking recovery from 15+ minutes to about 30 seconds. Grew that into a shared static-asset platform for all Acuity frontends with two platform teams; it became the org standard and cut CDN spend by $72k/year.

  • Top contributor to the React rewrite of Acuity's legacy jQuery client scheduling page. Built its checkout and payments layer (Stripe, Square, saved cards, tipping, gift codes), and the first rollout phase moved about 45% of customers to it. Then led the PayPal integration and co-led the class-booking template, writing the ADR for each; both unblocked later migration phases. It's now rolled out to 100% of users.

  • Co-led a self-serve editor that lets businesses change any text on their booking page with a live preview, from hack-week prototype to launch. 11k businesses adopted it within three months, and related support volume fell 30%.

  • Designed the multitenancy architecture for Acuity's Go services and built it end to end, including a production backfill covering every business. It is now the standard pattern for all Acuity services.

  • Engineering lead for the redesigned scheduling-page settings that every Acuity admin uses (owned 51 of 63 tickets, shipped to 100%). Sole developer and rollout lead for moving Acuity's Squarespace website block onto Squarespace's component framework, then fixed funnel issues that raised block-to-trial starts 4.5% month over month.

Staff Software Engineer (SWE III) — Indeed Remote (San Diego, CA) | Nov 2020 - Jul 2022

  • Lead frontend engineer for Resume Search. Led and mentored a team of 10 frontend engineers, and set up alerting and on-call rotations for each frontend project.

  • On loan to the Indeed Hiring Platform team, split their monolithic webapp into 2 frontends and 2 backends with almost no interruption to development. This shrank the merge-request queue and let each app deploy on its own.

  • Helped Hiring Platform build a shared component library with Webpack Module Federation. This removed over 2.5k lines of duplicated code and kept every app on the latest components without redeploying.

  • Added Mixpanel event tracking and built dashboards on it so the team could make better-informed product decisions.

  • Led mock interview sessions that trained 20 new interviewers on two frontend interview questions, supporting Indeed's 2022 engineering hiring goals.

Senior Software Engineer (SWE II) — Indeed Seattle, WA & Remote (San Diego, CA) | Nov 2018 - Nov 2020

  • Frontend lead for Resume Search's administration dashboard, guiding 5 other frontend engineers.

  • Rebuilt Resume Search's purchase flow from the ground up, increasing conversion rate by 10%.

  • Engineered a frontend A/B-test bucketing solution that hid test names and let new tests ship without a backend deploy.

  • Set up module builds for modern browsers. This cut bundle size by over 40% and average page load time from 750ms to 400ms.

Senior Software Engineer (SWE II) — TraceMe Seattle, WA | Nov 2017 - Oct 2018

  • Built iOS and Android apps (React Native, Kotlin, Swift) with real-time social features on Firebase, plus Node.js/Serverless APIs backed by Postgres.

Software Engineer — Tune Seattle, WA | Sept 2016 - Nov 2017

  • Built React and React Native apps for the HasOffers product, and shared components for the company-wide TXL library.

Software Engineer (Next Gen POS) — Nordstrom Seattle, WA | Aug 2015 - Sept 2016

  • Built Java 8 REST microservices deployed with Jenkins, Docker and AWS, then a Swift MVVM iOS app for Nordstrom's next-generation point-of-sale system.

Software Engineering Intern (DevOps) — Nordstrom Seattle, WA | Jul 2014 - Sept 2014
